Mirai

Fanart of Mirai (Mascot from Culture Japan). It started out as a doodle and then I kind of got into the drawing since it's fun to paint the lighting etc. Also orange is such a pretty color! Anyways, it's for a contest. You win a Nendoroid. I think I might be too late though since Japan time and US time is different and it's a Pixiv contest which is probably Japan time. Oh well, it was fun anyways.

I had an art block. I really wanted to draw a nice detailed illustration, but nothing came out nice. Then, I was trying to do work, but I got stuck. In the end, I just decided to sit and doodle cute things instead and I still couldn't think of anything to draw except cats lol. Well there's also a ghost.

Follow the leader

For Halloween, I had an idea of having a leader ghost being followed by little minion ghosts. She's a little annoyed that they're following her around though lol. I couldn't decide which version I like more.

Klimt @ The Getty

There is an exhibit of Gustav Klimt: The magic of Line at The Getty museum. I went with Mitsu, Pailin, and her baby. Mitsu and I brought our sketch pads so that we could sketch things that were inspiring to us. It was very fun. I especially liked Klimt's colors and abstract shapes and textures that he adds to make his paintings more interesting. I also really love the way he paints hair especially when they're big and bubbly lol.

Seeking Refuge

Seeking Refuge I was doodling and one of the skirt looked kind of like an umbrella. This was a while back and once in a while this image of a girl with an umbrella skirt with critters hiding from the rain under her skirt would pop up in my head. I just wanted to get the drawing out of my system lol. I think I like my original sketch better though. Maybe I'll post that some other time :). Oh, I also wanted to play with my watercolor set and some simple graphic shapes and bright happy colors :).

Time stands still

Time stands still As I was painting the roses, my hand started to hurt. Too many roses. It started to become mundane, but it was necessary to complete this drawing! lol I was going to use some reference for the roses, but then I realized that I really don't like to draw from references. Maybe that's also why I'm not really into still life drawing that much. Sometimes it's fun, but not when I'm doing a personal drawing. For work or study purpose is another thing. When I'm painting out of my imagination, if I use references for things it feels like it ruins the flow for me, and my drawings become kind of stiff. To have to look at the references and look back is really annoying. Maybe it's okay if everything is not perfect. Even if the roses doesn't look super amazing, or the anatomy is not dead on, as long as the mood of the drawing is there, I'm happy.

a cupboard of pandas

A cupboard of pandas After I've discovered that "cupboard" is the term for a group of pandas, I've been really into collective nouns lately. They conjure up such interesting images, and the words really suit the described animals. A murder of crows, an unkindness of ravens, a crash of rhinos, aren't these cool? :D I don't think I'd draw an intrusion of cockroaches though lol.
